| Skin-friendly & Eco-friendly |
Yes, as someone who is conscious of both personal and environmental health, you would! And this blog post is only a gentle nudge to set you on the track to go green.
So, to all of you who care, I'd like you to consider the following five categories of beauty products that you can use instead:
1. Castile Soap
Castile soaps are versatile, organic, plant-based soaps that are eco-friendly and come in both bar form and liquid form (Martinko, Oct. 2020). These soaps are beneficial for all skin types and can be used as shampoo, face wash and body wash. They can also be safely used on babies as they are very mild and gentle. What's more, they are all-purpose and can be used as laundry wash, dish wash, pet wash and much more.
Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap is a very popular brand in the US. But you can also get it from Amazon in India. It's expensive, alright, but its benefits outweigh its price. It's available in scented and unscented forms.
Here are other, less expensive options that are as effective:
FOR8 CHAKHAO black rice unscented liquid castile soap, 500ml
CERO Dr Rao's unscented, all-purpose liquid castile soap, 200 ml
2. Vegan Cosmetics
There are many vegan cosmetic products available today. You can check them out on the Amazon website. My personal preference though is products from Disguise and Plum. Check them out below:
Plum grape seed and sea buckthorn light day cream with SPF 30, 30 ml pack
Disguise matte lipstick, coral dramatist 05, 4.2 gm
3. Facial Wipes
Facial wipes are a must-have for facial grime and make-up removal. Many non-bleached, chemical-free versions are available today made from natural fibres like bamboo fibre, both in disposable and reusable forms.
These reusable make-up removal pads from HEALLILY comes in a pack with 10 pieces. These are made from natural bamboo fibre and are skin-friendly as well as eco-friendly. These can also be used as a nursing pad, and are great for everyday use.
Check out this disposable version as well:
Beco bamboo fibre facial tissue paper, pack of 3
4. Neem Wood Comb
This is my personal favourite! Neem is known for its medicinal properties. It is anti-bacterial, and therefore, is great for hair and skin health. I use the neem wood comb by The Legend.
I've been using this comb for a while now. Frankly, I haven't noticed any difference in my hair and scalp health, maybe it's too soon to notice, but, I love using it because it smells so good!
5. Natural Make-up Brush Set
I personally do not use make-up and do not have a brush set, but I feel that those who do should choose to use brushes with natural wood or bamboo handles instead of opting for brushes with plastic handles. So, I checked out Amazon and have this product to recommend:
House of Quirk make-up brush set with bamboo handles and a reusable cotton storage pouch, 4 pieces.
In conclusion, I'm not against other beauty products in the market, nor am I rallying against their use. I'm just doing my best to be an eco-friendly person in my thoughts, words and deeds, and I hope to tug at the eco-sensitive corners of your heart. Until my next post, Namaste!
